As we all know I was the first born to Emma and Cecil. I do have my birth certificate, but it's in the safe deposit box. I wonder if the weight is on it, since I was born at home. My birth certificate was filled out by Mom. Of course I was named for Mom. On the birth certificate, my name, Margaret was not spelled the same as Mom's and if my memory is correct, it is on there a third time and all three were spelled different. I'll have to check that again. Of course, if I did much writing right after giving birth at home, who knows what I would write. I'm always amazed how what you all remember that I have no memory of. I can't remember ever hearing about what an ugly baby Joyce was and Bertha, at 20 months, how do you remember spilling the flower seeds. I do remember about the hurricane around the time of Bertha's birth, but not much else. I do remeber that I did know about mother being pregnant. I remember that even though I was 12, there was no mention about a baby coming. Even though there was a shower for mother, there was no mention of it, but I found the gifts in the cedar chest. I remember someone asking Mother how much longer she had and she said 3 more and their answer was weeks and she said no, months. She must have been large. I remember more about Gloria being born than anyone else. I went with Dad to get Mrs. Jernigen to be with Mom and then he dropped me off at Joe and Irma Wiggins. When they picked me up (and I guess Joyce must have been there also, but don't remember) I was told that we had a surprise at home and of course it was another baby girl, named Gloria.
Another birth that I remember well, was Ben's. He was born in Obici, where Gloria was working at the time. She and I were there. I remember when Gloria called Dad after he was born and she told him that the baby (Ben) was fine, Dad cried. I think he had been worried.
I guess I'll stop remembering and close so I can get to bed before too late.
I went to see Dad and Joan yesterday and took them some Brunswick stew, or as Joyce calls it, soup. We had a nice visit. Joan's grandson was there when I got there and he had lunch with us. It was nice to see Bertha feeling better also.
I may have mentioned this before, but it's faster to type it again, rather than check. I leave on Wednesday for Hollywood and will be back on Sunday. As I type this I do remember typing it before. The memory isn't totally gone.
Good night, Margaret
