Exciting Week
It has been an exciting week for the Hickory Belvins. Kyle, Lol and I went to Charleston Monday night to begin an exciting week of college visits. We visited the military college The Citadel on Tuesday, The University of South Carolina on Wednesday, and Lol and Kyle visited Clemson University on Thursday. Kyle was sure he wanted to go to a military college until he realized at USC that there might be something to having girls on campus. We are staying with Jeremy, Cathy and the kids Sunday night and then touring at N.C. State on Monday.
Also, Kyle applied to a summer leadership program at the United States Military Academy at West Point last week and he received his offical acceptance letter today. The seminar is from June 9th through June 15th. It is our understanding that this week is a microcosm of life at West Point and this will give him a good understanding of what life would be like if he went there. This also will give him an advantage over many of the thousands of people who will apply for the freshamn class of 2013. One of the requirements to go to West Point is to get a nomination from our representative from the U.S. House of Representatives or from one of the state's two Senators. Each of these get 10 nominations so the competition is fierce. We are exploring this now. Wish us luck as it is going to be an exciting, scary, stressful, ETC. next 12 months.
