Here are some photos from this weekend -- sorry it's so twin-centric. Next Christmas do something cute and I promise to take your photo. Enjoyed it, thanks to Margaret and Gene for hosting!

Christmas

Enjoyed being with all the family this weekend. Thanks for all the gifts! Amber slept all the way home. She was pooped! It's nice not to have to go back to work today. I'm just chilling and doing a little reorganizing. I talked to Ben and he left for Fl. this morning, but not as early as he had planned.

I wish a prosperous, safe and happy new year to all of you!

Bathing Suits

One more thought, If anyone wants to get in hot tub on Sunday, bring your bathing suits. Or you can get in hot tub after the party is over.

PLANS FOR 27TH & 28TH

SATURDAY, 27TH
On Saturday, 27, we will have a limo pick us up at our house at 6 pm. Then he will go to hotel and pick up family there around 6:30 pm. Cathy, I've checked about the babies and they do have seat belts to secure the car seats. It is a 10 passenger limo, so with the baby seats, he may have to make two trips. He will be staying at the party the whole time, so at any time if anyone wishes to leave, he'll be available to take them back to the hotel. This way,no one needs to worry about how to get to the party and anyone who wishes to drink can do so. Let me know if there are any
questions.

SUNDAY, 28TH
Breakfast at our home.
Menu - Sausage and egg casserole
Ham, hash browns and egg casserole
Ham buscuits
Sweet rolls
Fruit tray
Plenty of coffee
Orange juice
Wassel - hot cider
Can anyone think of anything else we need?

For later, I have made a big pot of brunswick stew or as Joyce calls it "vegetable soup with chicken"

We won't start quite as early as camping, but everything should be ready no later than 9, but most will be ready earlier, so when you get up and check out of hotel, come on over. If you will get here before I get up, I will leave you a key and you can start the coffee. We have 45 cup coffee maker, so should have plenty. I may make only about 36 cups, unless there are some heavy drinkers in our group.

Could you please respond so I know that every family saw the blog.

PRAYER REQUEST

We have another prayer request. Lol's father has just been diagnosed with cancer. He has had a little trouble breathing through his nose and went to the doctor and had it checked out. They did a biospsy. They will be doing further testing before any treatment. I'm not sure what type of cancer, only of the nasal area. He will be going back to doctor tomorrow, so keep him in prayer. It has changed their plans for Christmas. They had planned to go to Roanoke to see Lee, Lol's brother, first and then to Lol's and Howie's on late Sunday. Lol and Howie will go to NJ when they leave here to see them.

Joan

Joan is scheduled for surgery, Monday, January 5. She is to have the fissure repaired. Subject is too personal to post. Also, last week, she had a lump removed from her tonsils. She is hoarse, but seems to be doing well. There seems to be little to no concern, but tissue was biopsied.

At last report, Ben may not be at the Byrum Christmas gathering. He is schedule to go to FL shortly after Christmas for the week.

I went to Center Hill's Panorama tonight and enjoyed it. Don't think that they added a new scene this year. Mary Nixon is still the one in charge, I believe.

Merry Christmas and see you all next Saturday.

Waiting

Well, the stocking are hung by the chimney with care and we're waiting on St. Nick! I'm out of school and so the next few day will be a little more relaxed. Pumsy is out of hospital and staying with me probably until after Christmas. For those uninformed, Pumsy had gall bladder surgery on Tuesday and has been at my house since Wednesday. We're making it OK and she's a pretty good patient.

I look forward to seeing all of you on the 27th and 28th!

Fun Time

Thought that I would post these from Cathy's flickr for those who have not seen them. The babies had a good time with Dad and Joan.

Saturday, December 13, 2008

I have a egg casserole that I may use on the 28th along with other things, but if you have one also, would you share it with me and see which I like better. I also plan to use a red punch using a punch fountain. If you have another recipe, would you also share. Talk to you soon.

Happy Birthday Mom

JOAN'S BIRTHDAY

Joyce and I, maybe husbands? are going to Edenton tomorrow to take Joan and Dad out to lunch for Joan's birthday. We going to "that fancy restaurant" on Board Street around 1 pm. I can't ever get the name right.
Hope to see you there.

Hope all had a great Thanksgiving. As Cathy said, so much to be thankful for. One of the things that I'm thankful for is that I've had almost 66 years of close to perfect health. I'm reminded of a saying that a friend says. "It's not about what we plan for in life, but finding out what's been planned for us." See you tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving

So much to be thankful for....

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

CHRIS COMING HOME

Well, Chris has just gotten the news and its not what we were hoping for. He starts leave Christmas day. That means that he probably will not make it home for our anniversary celebration. That bothers him more than not being home Christmas. We can celebrate Christmas when he gets home. It does not mean that he actually flys to the states on Christmas. It means that he will go to Kuwait to wait for a flight home. Just pray that there's a flight leaving as soon as he gets there.

Also keep me in your prayers. I'm having a rough time with this RA.
Love you guys. Margaret

Acts of Kindness

Thanks to all for the cards, prayers, & flowers. I surely got more that I bargained for that is for sure. I started back to work last week and was so glad to get life back to normal. Everything is pretty much back to normal with me, the biopsy of the cysts showed nothing of concern so we are thankful of that. Again, I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. And a HUGE thank you to mom & dad for all their help with me & in keeping the kids lives as normal as possible. Oh yea, Jason was wonderful those 2 weeks. I have a great husband! See you are Ima Jeans on the 7th! LOVE TO ALL!!

Lymphoma Walk and Christmas Gifts

Christie, Shawn, Bertha & I walked for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Light the Night walk" on Saturday night. We raised over $600. Hope it helps find a cure. I hope more of us can walk next year. Bertha & I lighted a candle in memory of Gloria. Christie had done it last year, so she let us do it this year. We had a nice dinner afterwards.

It was my plan for us to decided what we wanted to do as far as gifts for Christmas. No one would give an opinion as to what they wanted to do. Joyce called me today to see if we had made a decision. She was shopping and had come across something that she was considering buying. Since no one would give an opinion last night, Joyce and I decided that we would do gag gifts again for anyone who wishes to participate.

The plan is our "45th Wedding anniversary celebration on Saturday, December 27 and then meet at our home the next morning for breakfast and celebrate Christmas at that time. Joyce has reserved rooms at the Radison, which is very close to our home. They have the most reasonalble rates. I'll make more reservations for anyone who plans to stay over. And that makes sense to me. You'll be receiving an invitation soon.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

I am copying part of an email from Chris, because there's a message to Christie and Joyce in it. Joyce, I don't think he's able to read the blog, so I'm also copying your message and emailing it to him.

To be with you and Christie in spirit at least, on Saturday morning, I will pack my ruck and do a 5-6 mile ruck march. Of course, it will be around 10pm Friday night your time when I start and I should be done around midnight your time/7 am here. I should be able to do it in 2 hours, 2 1/2 at max, because our annual requirement in 12 miles in 4 hours with a 35 lb ruck. I'm not sure if I can legally try to get sponsors here, but I'm going to talk to JAG tomorrow to find out what I can do, if anything. If nothing else, I may just put out an invitation to my friends an coworkers to at least join me on the ruck march. How old was Gloria when she passed? I thought it was 37 or 38. I don't remember what year it was; I just remember that I was in 7th grade. I'm not sure why, but more than once since I've been here I've thought about Gloria and felt selfish and guilty for going to my wrestling tournament the weekend of her funeral. I think it's because I have the picture of you, Bertha, Joyce and Granddaddy that Bertha took back in June and sent to me on the door to my wall locker in my room. In fact, it's the only picture I have in my room because all of the pics Michelle has sent of the kids, I have under a sheet of plexiglass on my desk. I need to know the official name of the foundation (American Cancer Society or whatever) and who your sponsors make checks out to so I can ask JAG. If nothing else, I do have a paypal account (to pay for my internet) that people here can deposit in if I can get sponsors here.

Please tell Joyce I got my package from her and that I'm glad she waited because the scottcharoos were a GREAT "birthday present". I will write her a letter soon. Things have slowed down a little bit since the big end of the month reports are done and turned in and the assistance division commander (my brigade commander from 2003) has been briefed. I'll try and write her in the next day or two, as well as more about my birthday to you and Dad that I had already written when my computer restarted.

Hope Hannah is doing well. Bertha, since Hannah will not be able to walk with us, I think you should join us.

Happy Belated Birthday, Chris

Sorry this post is late. I've been having problems logging in recently. Tried to yesterday at work and could never get it to work. And then when I got home... well, you know how it goes. Anyway, Chris, I was thinking about you yesterday and hope that you had a nice day. We look forward to seeing you when you get home. Try to stay away from danger.
Today's Message of the Day is:Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance.

This was part of an awsome email that I received. Wanted to share this part with you and always remember the last line, as I will try also.
Love you guys, Margaret

GOOD NEWS. Hannah went home from the hospital. Bertha had texted me this morning that they had checked her temperature twice during the night and it had been fine. Bertha came home from church around 7 and Hannah and Jason had been by to pick up Amber on the way home. I know that Hannah is glad to be out of the hospital. We can still keep her in prayer until she totally feeling better.

Saturday, October 25, 2008

Hannah had hoped to go home tomorrow, but it seems doubtful. Bertha texted me when we were on the way home. Hannah's fever had gone back up to 99.7. We need to keep her in prayer.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

More on Hannah, According to text message from Bertha, they did a CT scan and it showed no nicks or obstruction in her bowel. (Glad I read it again because I orginally thought she said it showed nicks) They think now there's an infection and were to start antibotics soon after the text message was sent which was 2:16 today. She has been running a fever. Bertha says she'll be in hospital at least until Saturday.

Hannah

For those who may not have gotten the word, Hannah had to go back to the hospital on Tuesday night and from what I understand, she is still in the hospital and having difficulties. Originally she was throwing up, but I am not sure what her status is now but I'm sure she would appreciate our prayers.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Due to members of the family not being able to attend Dad's birthday celebration on Sunday, we have changed days. We will be going to "Fancy Place" for Dad's birthday on Saturday at 5 pm.
Let me know if you plan to attend. I need to make sure that we have enough people to get the back room. As before, Joyce is making a cake.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Joyce and I plan to go to lunch on Sunday to celebrate Dad's birthday. We thought we could do as we did last year at "That Fancy Cafe". It will probably be around 12:30 pm. Let me know soon if you plan to go so we can reserve the back room if it's available. Actually, I've just reserved the room, but if there won't be enough people, I'll cancel and we'll eat in the front. Joyce said she would bring a cake. Hope to see lots of you.

Happy Something to Somebody!

I remember that it's someone's birthday or someone else's anniversary, and that tomorrow there's two anniversaries or Mom & Dad's anniversary and someone's birthday. At the very least, happy anniversary tomorrow to Mom and Dad. I really need a calendar of birthdays and anniversaries -- I'll see if we can't add a calendar to the blog.

Monday, October 20, 2008

We wish Hannah success with her operation tomorrow. We'll keep you in prayer.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Happy Belated Birthday!!

Happy Belated Birthday Aunt Margaret! Hope you had a good time in Hickory. Do we have a report on the soccer game between father and son??

Help Me "Light the Night"

Good morning everyone!

It's the time of year again when I participate in the "Light the Night" walk for the leukemia and lymphoma society. The walk will be taking place on November 1st a the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Registration starts at 5:30 and the walk starts at 7:00. It really is heartwarming to see all the street lights go out and see all the balloons light up in support of finding a cure for these two diseases. Having said all that....I need your support! I have set up a web page to accept donations but have not personalized it, since I'm so technologically challenged. The url is http://teams.lightthenight.org/GloriaJean

You can go to this web page and make donations directly to the society.

Anybody interested in walking with me? If so, please let me know and I'll set up on my webpage or I think you can sign up to walk on my team directly from that page. Either way, it's for a great cause and I look forward to participating!

Christmas - Anniversary

Gene and I plan to celebrate our 45th anniversary on Saturday, December 27 from 7pm - 11 or 12. We were wondering about trying to have Byrum Christmas celebration the same weekend for those who would have to travel. We are also hoping that Chris will be home at that time and he would like to be part of both events. He knows that he'll have two weeks in December, but cannot request dates until November. What appeals to me is to have anniversary celebration on Saturday night, people say over and then get together for Christmas celebration on Sunday morning. The other option would be to get together on Saturday morning for Christmas celebration and then have anniversary that night. The anniversary celebration will be at the American Legion hall. We plan to have food as well as dancing. Let me know if most would be willing to stay over on Saturday night.

Freebie

I have a queen size mattress cover that came with our select comfort bed if anyone needs it. We don't need it because we decided to also purchase the padded cover to go with our bed.

Barry was home this past weekend because his friend, Cy died on Friday. It was good to see Barry even though we were saddened about the death of his friend. Cy was an only child which, to me, seems to make it doubly sad.

Barry was able to spend a little while with the babies yesterday which I'm sure he enjoyed. He thought that Margaret's idea for Christmas was great.

Thursday, October 02, 2008

I assume that since we have not heard anything, Hannah is doing okay and that it was a viral problem. We enjoyed being with everyone this weekend and we were lucky as far as the weather went, considering how it was predicted.

Monday, September 29, 2008

Enjoyed the weekend. Thank you to everyone for helping us take care of our kids!

Missed those who couldn't be with us. Pictures from the weekend at www.flickr.com/photos/cisom

Thursday, September 25, 2008

I'm bringing my old electric fry pan. Last time I could not find so I brought it. I found old one. I think Howie's family may not be coming. My memory is so bad, I asked Gene if he said it was definite or was he leaning that way. He thinks he's leaning that way. Kyle hurt his foot playing soccer and had to go to have it checked out. It's not broken, but sprained. The contributing factors are of course the rain, but they are also having trouble finding places in Hickory who have gas. We were on the phone while he was driving and I believe he passed at least 3 stations that were out of gas. I'll find out tomorrow morning for sure.

Capacity

Wonder Wagon max. capacity is 4 - Rick, Bertha, Dad and the highest bidder! The highest bidder must sleep on the pull out sofa with Dad.
Well, I guess if worse comes to worse, we can get Bertha & Ricky to pull up in front of Joyce's house and whoever doesn't fit, can camp out in their garage. How about it Joyce?

I think the rain is supposed to be gone by tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone else have a weather update?

Camping

I wonder what the maximum capacity is in the "Wonder Wagon"

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Michelle will be bringing some bread and fruit. I'm planning to bring something sweet and a tossed salad in addition to the hotdogs. It seems that some of you signed up for two many things. If anyone knows anything else that I need to bring, please let me know.

Tommy

If anyone wants a periodic report on Tommy, you can go to caringbridge.org and enter tommysummerlin where prompted.

Tommy seems to be having a hard time with the meds. He is back in school part time but having some difficulties. None of his immediate family members were a match for bone marrow transplant so that was a big disappointment.

Thanks for all your prayers.

Camping goods

I would love to bring something but it appears everything is spoken for. If someone would like to switch something to me, please let me know ASAP. I'll be bringing stuff anyway, but would like to the group effort as well.

Had a good time on Friday night, Aunt B. Sorry we left early. I just kept hearing Emma hacking and coughing and didn't want her to get too sick and miss this weekend!

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Camping

I called Outdoor World today. The cost for the barbecue meal is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 10. They are also asking campers to bring dessert. I'm planning to make one of Mama's apple cakes. If anyone elso wants to make something, please feel free. See you next weekend.

Prayer Request

Could you please add another to your prayer list? Ed's nephew, Tom called yesterday and told us that their 8-yr old son, Tommy has been diagnosed with leukemia. They started his chemo last night and will be testing the family for bone marrow matches. Can't imagine how devastating this news must be. I am including a picture so that you can put a face with your prayer.

Babies

We had a good visit with the babies this weekend and thought you might like to see the pictures. Ridge's is kinda fuzzy because he was swinging and I was talking to him to get him to smile and also I'm not the most accomplished photographer but I sure can write a long sentence, can't I?

Sunday, August 31, 2008

I hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend and not working instead of playing. I have a couple of items of news. Howie had laser surgery on his eye on Wednesday for glaucoma. The surgery went well and there really is little down time. He rested a couple of hours after the surgery, but went to work the next day and also did practice with his soccer team.

The other news is a worse. Michelle went to the doctor as follow up with her back on Thursday. She found out that she has fibromyalgia. Apparently, she has had it for quite some time, but was never diagnosed. Even though it is bad, she says that at least she feels that she has closure.
There's a name for the pain that she experiences & she's not just trying to get attention, as she has been accused. There's no cure, just treatment to help the pain. I understand it is really painful. My hair dresser and a lady in my church also has it. Keep her in prayer. Hey my children are too young to be having all these problems. Don't you agree, Joyce? I hope Barry is doing well going off the medicine.

Friday, August 29, 2008

Happy Birthday to Christie!!!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

The Ervins will be going camping on the designated weekend. As for what I'm bringing, I'm not sure, haven't had the time to critique the menu and see what's left. Ashley, jeff and Cayden will be coming as well. Didn't see an answer about how many tents per site, but we will have two tents. Trying to talk Terri into coming at least for the day on Saturday and join us at the pig pickin - Hear that Terri?????

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Barry

Barry went to the cardiologist yesterday and she said that his heart is strong and he should be able to taper off his medication without complications, so he begins to do that today and hopefully things will progress smoothly. (I think the prior sentence is too long but whatever. You notice these things when you have a son in the editing business.) Thanks for all the prayers.

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Bertha,
Thought I'd do as you requested and do a new blog rather than reply. Well, here is my response, Dad did look good in that picture. I remember thinking that day how good his skin looked. I wonder why it's so blotchie (sp) some days and clear others. I appreciate you remembering Chris. I know he enjoys hearing from everyone. I sent him baked goods Monday.
Hope I'll see all on Sunday.

DAD

Been meaning to share this photo that was taken at our Father's Day gathering. I mailed one to Christopher. Thought that Dad looked pretty good!

Picture

This is a picture that Ed took at the beach of the Wright Bros Memorial. It was taken through his telescope from the deck of the unit we were staying it. I think it was kind of neat.

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Joyce, Did you really understand what you put in the blogg or was it a typo; one cabin for me and another for Gene. It was suppose to be one for Gene and I and one for Michelle. I will definitely bring hotdogs and will go over the list laster. We've been up late talking to Chris. Good night.

Saturday, August 16, 2008

Signing up

If anyone wants to sign up to bring certain things, you can email me at edsum@charter.net and I can edit Hannah's post and add your name beside the items. Margaret has signed up for two cabins; one for her and one for Gene :) so I will probably try to reserve two additional campsites which should accomodate the rest of us. We are looking forward to it.

Ed has completed his radiation and is feeling well. We are truly blessed. Barry goes to the doctor on Wednesday. Babies are doing well and starting to eat rice cereal. Both are flipping over.

How many campsites are we going to need to accomodate everyone and will I need to reserve a cabin? If so, for how many nights?

Camping - Get Ready, Let's Go

It looks like September 26th-28th is the most preferred date for camping. I don't know about y'all, but BBQ sounds great to me for dinner on Saturday. As time approaches, we will plan out the meals. As it looks now, we can just have hot dogs, chips, & marshmallows for supper Friday, the usual breakfast prepared and provided by all, lunch on your own, BBQ dinner, then repeat breakfast & lunch as before.

Joyce,
Would you please make reservations for us at Outdoor World? Has anyone said anything to granddaddy yet about going?

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Chris and Michelle have a new phone number. It is 910-339-7969. She thought it would not change, but it did.

Sunday, August 10, 2008

Gene and I will be in Nags Head the week of September 6 - September 13. Hannah, children, & ??? will be coming the first weekend and spending Saturday night with us. Anyone else want to visit, just let us know.

Cortlyn, Mandi and I went to visit with Dad and Joan today. The girls and I went to the beach; Hannah, Amber and Clay met us there. The girls, Dad, Joan and I went to Edenton and ate Chinese food. Amber and Clay wanted to go with us and we had said that they could until we realized that there was no more room in the car.

As most of you know the GA Belvins who now live in North Carolina, have just moved. Michelle is really excited about the move; more space, new building, larger yard, better neighbors, etc. Their new address is
9 Hackberry PlaceCameron, NC 28326 and their phone number is supposed to stay the same: 910-339-4183.

Michelle and Chris will be coming on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing them also.

Camping Date

I guess the family needs someone to take control of the camping planning and get a date set & make reservations & start the needed plans. I guess I will take it. (Little B will take control). Right now it seems that the weekends of Sept. 19-21, 26-28 & Oct 3-5 seem to be better for most. Let's go ahead and take a vote. Outdoor World seems to be the best choice so that Granddad can go if he wants to. Also, it gives Gene the option of a cabin as well. Please make a decision on which date works best for your family and post it by next Monday, 8/11. Love to all!!

Sunday, August 03, 2008

Camping

Sorry it's taken me so long to post but I wanted to check out the Outdoor World website to find out what's going on in Sept and Oct and I just couldn't seem to find the time to do it. 9/5-9/7 is the Wakeboard Competition down there which is fun to watch but there does seem to be quite a crowd so don't know if we want to do it then or not. The 7th is also Grandparents' Day. If anyone enjoyed the barbecue weekend, that is 9/26-9/28. Anytime is okay with us and if anyone prefers Medoc Mountain Park, that's okay too. I've been there before but haven't ever camped there but Hannah said it was real nice. I know they have a hiking trail. We could probably look on-line to find out more.

Ed has two more weeks of treatments and so far hasn't had any adverse reactions.

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Joyce, Are you having time to read the blog since your sec. is out on maternity leave. If this year is not good for you at Outdoor World, we can make other plans. Hannah said there is a state campground in Halifax county (Joyce's county) that is still near everyone called Medoc State Park (I believe). Hannah and Jason stayed there this spring or last fall and enjoyed it. Not as many things to do, but still very enjoyable. There is also a wonderfull campground in GA at DeSoto Falls if we want to travel?

Memories, Memories! Today, Hannah and I walked up the side of a mountain on a very narrow trail to see a nice waterfall, Desoto Falls. If you turned left, you walked 1/4 mile UP to the lower falls, turned right you walked 3/4 mile UP to the higher falls. It was after 5pm so we took the left trail. Good thing as I had to slow up almost to a stop twice to catch my breath. The walk was worth it because the water fall was beautiful. It reminded me of the time when Joyce and I hiked a trail at Massanutten and she almost rolled down the ski slope. Hannah and I had a good chuckle, Sorry Joyce. Do you still have a bruise?

Barry, are you still doing good except for the side effects?

Ed, are you still doing as well as last week?

Camping

I'm not planning this year. I will, however, give my input. I think we had a great time all years that we switched the location, but I do realize now, that Outdoor World seems to work better for most. Cabin camping works well for Grandad & Joan as well as Margaret & Gene. Bertha & Rick have camper so, I guess anywhere that accomodates that is acceptable. Outdoor world works great for me, but then again, anywhere does!

Amber's team was unsuccessful at the state playoff. It was a good experience and the team had a great time swimming afterwards. Hannah and I are enjoying the scenery of the Georgia mountains this evening. We "hobnobed" tonight at Wolf Mountain Winery. After a tasting, we enjoyed a wonderful meal on the side of a mountain. Tomorrow, I'll sleep late, and rest by the pool while Hannah goes to marketing class from 8-4:50. Then we'll go out to dinner with the group. Our room has one huge window with a wonderful view! The last time that I was in Georgia the last week of July was Christopher and Michelle's wedding. It's just about as hot as last time too! We are in Dahlonega, GA. Before we leave, we have plans to go to the gold museum.

What's the latest on Barry? I won't be able to email anyone this week, don't have anyone e-address.

Anyone been looking at the calendar for our annual campout? I think that I heard that we'll be going to Outdoor World and that makes me happy! Check your calendars.

Barry

New prayer request...Barry is spending tonight overlooking the East River from his Bellevue hospital room where he was admitted this morning. He was having erratic heartbeats which they had under control by this afternoon. They wanted to monitor him over night though. He didn't have any answers to the cause of it when I spoke to him late tonight. They did say his heart looked strong though. Hopefully, he will be released in the morning with good news. That's all I know for now.

Savannah loves to chew on her right foot but she is willing to share her left one with her brother.

Weekend Visit

Barry flew in on Saturday to see his friend Cy who is beginning his treatments this week (chemo/radiation) for his brain tumor. They were not able to do the surgery as planned because the tumor was not defined enough, I believe. We continue to ask you to remember him and his family in your prayers. He wasn't here very long but was here long enough for me to get this picture of he and Ridge playing the "twin" game.

Softball

Just wanted to share these photos. Yes, we are very proud of Amber and her accomplishments. She, Jason, & the team have all worked extremely hard to get where they are. Will keep you updated.

Softball

As Margaret said in the comment, E/C All Stars did win their first game, 11-3, lost second 8-2. They will play in the state games in Greensboro next Saturday, to date - time unknown. We will spend Friday and Saturday night there. Hannah has schooling in Georgia all the next week and I'll be spending the week with her, so we'll leave Greensboro and head toward GA. Rick, Jason and our third baseman will be heading back home for a "wifeless, motherless week". Rick and I have enjoyed cheering them on! Go Edenton/Chowan All Stars!, representing the Albemarle District (Gates, Pasquotank, Perquimans, & Chowan Co).

Went to see Dad today. He's having the "throbbing forehead" problem again. From his description, he and I both think it may be a circulation issue. As long as he's moving, it doesn't bother him much. Sometimes when he sitting, he's doing the "Stevie Wonder" rock, which helps it not hurt??? He says he's going to see his doctor on Tuesday. He says he need some relief. He's embarrassed in public to keep rocking.

Good luck Ed on your second week of treatments.

Sunday, July 20, 2008

Congratulations to Amber and Jason for doing so well with your softball season. We're all very proud of you both. Especially Granny. I know no one has enjoyed the games more than Bertha has. Of course, we all know there's nothing like grandchildren.

Talking about grandchildren. Cortlyn turned 12 on Friday. As she will be happy to tell you that means that's she almost 13 (one of those years that you really look forward to. My last one that I was looking forward to was turning 65 so that I could go on Medicare. Sad isn't it??

Chris's family and Beverly are going to Florida next week and Howie's family are leaving at the end of the week to go to Myrtle Beach (or vacinity) for the Meyers week together all 20 of them I believe if I've counted correctly the following week. Lol and Amber are leaving Thursday and Kyle and Howie are going on Sunday after Howie picks up Kyle from his church camp. Hope all have a really safe and fun trips.

prayer request

If you've got space on your prayer lists, please make room for my much-loved friend Cy, who's going through hell right now in the Duke ICU. http://blogs.newsobserver.com/category/tags/Cy-Rawls. Thanks -- love to you all.

Ed and Babies

Ed had his first radiation treatment today and seemed to handle it fine. He was a little more tired than usual when he got home this afternoon. His plan is to have his treatment at 11:15 which lasts about 15min., go home for lunch, rest and return to work at 1:00PM. Only 24 more treatments to go, 5 per week for 5 weeks. Prayers are requested and appreciated.

Game Highlights, by Granny

Each year, as I remember, Edenton and Hertford teams always seem to play the final game. After close games, Edenton was victorious in the 8 year and under team, 10 year and under team and the 16 year and under team. Jason is one of the coaches and Amber plays third base. She is one who has the arm to get the ball to first base, sometimes on target, sometimes not. During the first game on Sunday with Hertford, one throw was right on target getting the runner OUT! During the second game, one of Hertford's strongest hitters hit a line drive straight to Amber's left shoulder. She had no time to react. POW! there it was. You would have been proud, she picked up the ball and still threw it, right before she began to cry. After ice was applied, she came right back in and played the rest of the game. It was a great game that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes (8pm-10:45). She was suppose to be at Cale Retreat (Camp Cale) @ 4pm. She arrived close to 12:00. Say a little prayer for her today as I'm sure she is tired, nervous about her first day @ camp and probably a little sore.
You would have also been proud of the good sportsmanship that Jason and the other coach have. They have also instilled this in their players!
This report comes from one vocal fan, Granny and one quiet supporter, Poppy! Off to Kinston next weekend! I hope the next report is as exciting!

Softball, Softball, Softball

This weekend, after losing their 1st game & coming back and winning the next 3, Amber & her teammates are now the Albemarle District Champs for 10 & Under Softball!! We will now travel to Kinston this weekend for regionals. I am very proud of her & Jason.

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Good luck to Ed, who starts his radiation on Monday. Hope all goes well.

It sooo nice to be feeling good again and really enjoy eating. Even though there was nothing major wrong, medication can really knock your socks off. After getting the cast off my arm Wednesday morning, I slept soo well on Wednesday night. I think when I awoke around 8 am, it didn't seem as if I had moved since I went to sleep the night before. I now realize the reason that I could not sleep was the cast was putting pressure on my wrist. There is still effects from that pressure. After the medicine for the staff infection making me feel so bad, I had an allergic reaction and brokeout in a rash from my head to my feet. I now know I can't take sulfur again. Even though the infection has cleared up, the doctor put me on another round of another medication. I reminded myself of Barry tonight. I was enjoying eating so much, I was make the Barry sound when I was eating. I know I'm rambling. I guess I'll have to go back to work next week.

Chris called yesterday. He seems to be doing well. I also talked to Michelle tonight. They will be moving. It's about 8 miles off post, but it's much more room. It's still military housing, but new housing in which no one has lived before. She said that they got an end unit so they'll have more yard. It's also a better neighborhood for the kids. She's really happy about it.

We're going to Elizabeth City tomorrow to see Mr. Belvin. We had not been in about 4 weeks, so it's time.

Could someone please advise Terri on how to read the blog. She asked me sometime ago, but I told her I thought Joyce had to invite her in since she is the HBNC (head blogger in charge). Email her at southgatemallec@embarq.mail

Thanks!

PRAYER REQUEST - Chris let us know that Beverly's (Michelle's mom) cancer has returned and asked for prayer for her. We all know the power of prayer and I know that she will be put on all prayer list. In case you may not remember, it's Beverly Shore. He did not give us any details, but at one point she had said that if her tests came back positive that she would not have chemotherapy again. Don't know at this time, any other details.

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Savannah & Ridge's nanny started today in preparation for my return to work on Monday. It was & still is very difficult for me although she is very good. Her last family even had infant twin girls.

Why do they have to be so darn cute now that I have to leave for so much of the day?
As many of you know Kyle's confirmation was on Mother's day, along with 13 others. They met for 30 weeks for an hour. Each wrote their Statements of Faith and they were in the bulliten. I'd like to share Kyle's with you. I didn't ask permission to share.
"I believe in God, the creator, father of all living creatures. I believe in the unconditional love of our Lord God, who created us equally. I believe in the patience and forgiveness of God. I believe in Jesus Christ, son of God. I believe that he gave his life to save us from our sins. I believe that he healed the sick and wounded, taught the word of God, and rose from the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit who lives in all of us. I believe that the Spirit brings us to our calling and helps us make the right decisions. I believe that the church is a place of worship and a place to help renew our faith in God. I believe the church is a sanctuary from the less important matters of the outside world." I was very proud of him and just wanted to share.

Happy Birthday to all. I finally got out cards on Thursday, some belated some not. I've gotten so back about taking care of these details. I went to see Dad and Joan yesterday and they, Bertha & I went to dinner. We had a nice visit. I told Joan I was glad to see her back on track with therapy. The following is a copy of an email from Chris.

Not much really goin' on here. Fixin' to go to the range and shoot around 10 bullets and then there's nothing left to do. We were issued the new vest the other day and sat through a couple of classes. We're gonna' be here (Kuwait) longer than planned because they're not ready to receive us up north yet. So, I will get a chance to ride a camel some time next week and catch a free rock concert, making Chris and Michelle envious (they both like that band). Might as well while I can down here because I'll miss all those kind of things up there with my working night shift. Got up around 5:30 this morning and ran 2 miles. It was probably "ONLY" in the 80's or 90's then. Went to breakfast and to contemporary chapel service. Was happy, got to help serve communion this morning. Asked the chaplain if he needed any help this evening at traditional service. I was asked to help sing, but I had something that disagreed with me at dinner and wasn't able to make it.Wanted to call Amber tonight to tell her happy birthday, but there's no military installation near them and wasn't able to use my (figured out afterwards) expired prepaid card. I'm at a loss not being able to use hotmail, because it 's got all my e-mail addresses. Can ya pass this on to Howie and someone tell Amber "Happy Birthday" from me?Not much more to tell. Love y'all.LoveBoo boo

Me again, if you could email Chris he would then have your email address. I know he'd like hearing from anyone. Thanks.

Happy Birthday, Cat

Happy Birthday to my last born today. She is celebrating with Hubby and Babies and maybe others.

Happy Birthday also to "Squirrel" who I believe turns 100 today.

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Spoke with Michelle and Chris arrived safe. We also got an email from him and he's in Kuwait and bored and ready to go to Bagdade (sp) and go to work. His email address is chris.belvin@us.army.mil. He does not have anyone's email address because he can't use his email where he has email addresses stored.

The "30" CLUB

Happy Birthday to Cathy!! Welcome to the "30" Club. Only been a member a couple of days, but not liking it much right now. Hope you, Jeremy, & kids are doing well!

Belated Happy Birthday to Hannah!

And early happy birthday to Cathy.... and probably others. Isn't Richard Earl next week? I need a calendar of this stuff.

Chris

Chris, I was thinking about you and your family this morning, knowing that you were leaving soon but was not sure when. You know that the whole family will be praying for you and your whole family as I know it will be difficult for everyone. Be careful and stay alert to danger.

Ed has three doctors appointments this week. We go to the oncologist today, the gastro doctor on Wed and the radiology oncologist on Thursday. Of course he is looking forward to them all. Bright spot in the week is Cathy, Jeremy and babies are coming on Thursday night for a few days. Jeremy is cruising some land in the area so it was a good opportunity for us to see them.

Hope everyone has a good week.
Chris leaves tomorrow for Iraq for 15 months. We ask that you keep him and all of the other service men and women in your prayers. We have his address, but he says to wait to send anything until we get an email from him. Hope all are doing well.

Pampered Chef

Hey Aunt Joyce!

I got your message about your order and turned into Ashley yesterday. She'll give me a total today and I'll let you know. I think she's gonna hold the party open til Friday. That being said.....

Aunt Margaret, would you like us to place an order for you?

If anyone else is interested, you can go to thepamperedchef.com and browse the catalog, I think. If you see anything you would like to order, email Ashley at aeventers@yahoo.com. She is able to accept debit cards/credit cards as well as checks. Of course, cash is accepted worldwide!

Cake and ice cream on Sunday, May 11th at 4:00 if anyone would like to join us for Em's 6th birthday.

Thursday, May 01, 2008

Ben!

Okay, Ben. I'm tired of going to transientthinker everyday and finding nothing since February. Haven't you had any thoughts since then?

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

HAPPY BIRTHDAY To my mother.  We miss you.  Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Babies

Cathy recently took the babies to the pediatrician to get them weighed (they said she could do that at any time without an appointment) Ridge weighed 10lb14oz and Savannah weighed 9lb4oz. This was with their clothes on and the nurse said you could subtract about 4oz for clothing so they seem to be thriving nicely on breast milk only for the most part. Savannah and Cathy now have a cold with runny noses. She doesn't know if she picked it up from the doctor's office or not.

Ed is progressing nicely also. He goes back to the doctor on Monday and hopefully they will remove these darn staples which should make him feel better. He is out in his garden today probably doing more than he should but what's a body to do? I can't sit on him even though sometimes I wish I could (and smack both cheeks also).

Cathy has new photos posted at if you want to see the latest. (I was trying to insert a link to Cathy's flickr account but maybe only she can do that but you can go to flickr.com and search for Cathy Isom under people and you can see them there.)

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Gene and I took lunch today and had a nice visit with Joyce and Ed. Ed looked good and seemed to have a good appetite. We didn't stay too long after lunch so that Ed could get some rest. Joyce, on the way home, we stopped at Food Lion and got the plates. I'll go to Costco this week and pick up the remainder of the paper and plastic wares. Hope Ed will feel like going.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Just spoke to Mom, she says Dad's more alert each time she sees him, and that he's more alert in general than his surgeries in 2005. Mom's spending tonight in the waiting room, but can be reached on Dad's cell at 252-532-6881. Like Cathy said, Dad's recovering in the intensive care unit but should be moved to a room in the morning. They're at Nash General Hospital, (252) 443-8000, we'll let you know more when there's more to tell. Thank you for thinking of Dad.

Dad

Dad is out of surgery & headed to intensive care for the night. The doctor said everything went well. He should be staying in the hospital for about 4 days. Thanks for the prayers.

Saturday, April 12, 2008

As you all may or may not know, we are hosting the Layton reunion on May 4th with the help of Esther and Deloris. I'm going to list the things that we got last year. Last year I pick up the paper goods from Costco and I can do the same again this year. Let me know what everyone would like to do. Joyce, we are not counting on you to do anything. If it turns out that you can come that would be great, but don't worry about anything.
Here is the list. (Deloris has the cups for cold drinks)
200 large dinner napkins
280 small dessert plates
200 small dessert napkins
200 large dinner plates
160 styophome (sp) cups
24 table cloths size 54 X 108
plenty of knives, forks and spoons
trash bags
toilet paper
Unsweetened tea
bottled water
lemon
coffee
cream
sugar
Sweet and Low
Soft drinks
Salt
Pepper
Plastic serving spoons
Dessert bowls

What did I leave out? If it's okay, I'll make a trip to Costco and get the paper goods, forks, spoons, knives, etc.

More photos!

Tons of photos of Savannah and Ridge and family at my Flickr account.

Four Generations! What a photo to treasure! If you want a copy of this, just let me know and I'll make a few more!

The Blanchards, Jones, and Belvins went to church with Ben yesterday and had lunch at his house. Enjoyed it! Ben's title @ Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is "Associate in Parish Life" and he also directs the choir and plays the piano/organ. Keeps him pretty busy.

We'll be heading south this weekend in the "Wonder Wagon"! I frequently said that it looks like a bread truck, so Rick gave it the name. For Christmas, I purchased a custom license plate for the front painted like the Wonder bread bag!

Friday, April 04, 2008

Cathy, I was thinking last night that I was glad that I was sick this week and not last week or I would not have been able to see you and your family. I went to the doctor on Tuesday for a physical and Tuesday night was when I started feeling like I might be coming down with something and the next morning, I felt horrible. I figure I picked up something in the doctor's office. You know what they say about staying healthy, "Stay out of hospitals" and I guess that goes for doctor's office also. Today, the faucet is consistently dripping. I think I overdid it today. Went to the office and worked until 6:30 tonight. Had planned to stay a couple of hours.

Thursday, April 03, 2008

Clay, you look so handsome in your karate outfit and congratulations on receiving your blue belt. Talking about looks, Howie's family and I enjoyed visiting Cathy, Jeremy and the twins on Friday. I enjoyed so much holding and changing a diaper (even though I don't think I did such a good job, think I've lost touch) for the twins. I know the two of you have your hands full, but they really are such good babies. I'm just sorry that I don't live closer so that I could help you out more often. But if you need a little help for a few days, let me know and I can come on Thursday and stay through Sunday.
My memory is getting so bad, Hannah and Christie, I just came acorss cards that I meant to wrap with the children's gift from Highlights. I know that I paid for them, have the children been getting them? If know let me know so that I can follow up on them.

I have been sick in bed for the last two days, and you know if I stayed in bed for two days, I did not feel well. Am now feeling better and Gene says that after I've taken a shower and washed my hair I sure look better. I did not even wash my face or comb or brush my hair. Hey I guess I better get to bed again before I no longer feel better.

The Jones Family

Hope everyone is doing well! Especially Jeremy, Cathy, & the twins. We are looking forward to visiting in the near future. We enjoyed spending time with Margaret, Chris, and the kids last week (Amber & Clay the most). Things are going well with us. I included a picture of Clay getting his blue belt in karate. He really enjoys it. Jason & Amber are geared up for softball season, practice starts next week. And me, well I'm along for all the rides. Take Care & Love Ya All!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations, Cathy and Jeremy! Your babies are so cute! Sorry we haven't spoken sooner. Y'all up for company? Hoping to maybe stop by some weekend for a little while and see the new babies, now that we live so close. I'm sure we wouldn't mind watching them one evening, if y'all needed some "Mommy and Daddy time". I know, this soon, y'all probably don't want to spend a single minute away from them. Give us a holler and let us know when's good to visit. Chelle's in Vegas this week and I'm at mom and dad's in va for the week, but we'll be home next weekend. Well, chelle and cortlyn will be back next Sunday evening. Maybe some weekend after that? Y'all take care and Congrats again.

Chris

Ridge & Savannah had a rough night last night. It must have been something I ate. Luckily, Grandma was there to help. I got a chance to snap a photo of Grandma & Savannah snoozing after a long night of a ton of diaper changes and tears.

Other than last night both babies are still doing great & were at or above their birth weight at the doctor's appt yesterday.

Babies

The hospital released Cathy and Ridge today but are keeping Savannah for at least another 24 hours because she was jaundiced. They will all be staying at the hospital in Savannah's room until she can be released. Understandably we are all concerned and request your prayers.
