My early childhood bedroom was also the bedroom adjacent to Mom and Dad's. I shared it with Gloria. At times, we would scratch each other's back. I remember I always got to scratch hers first which meant that usually my back didn't get scratched because I went to sleep while scratching hers. When I was too talkative, she would threaten to tell ghost stories and scare me to get me to be quiet. We slept in a single bed which I remember calling it Gloria's new suite. It had a reddish finish with four short posts. The dresser was just a single with 3 drawers. I remember it well because the mirror rotated back and forward on bolts. When Ben was small, he used the dresser and later, I think I painted it white with yellow drawers. Later, Hannah used just the mirror in her room. The beige bookcase bedroom suite (Margaret's), well, Rick and I used it when we got married for the first year.
In my teen years in Edenton, the view from my window was the railroad track during the day and the airport search light in the sky at night. Both of these sight were very unique to me, even though the train only traveled on this track when it was going to unload Cotton Mill freight.
Later years, in my upstairs bedroom in Tyner, the sights from the windows were limited. I don't remember looking out during the daylight hours much, but I do remember looking up at the stars, especially in the summer. Occasionally I would climb out onto the kitchen roof and catch a few rays. I always remember curtains or blinds on the windows. During the winter, this bedroom was heated. There was a hole in the floor where Dad installed about a 12"x 12" grate which was over the den heater. Each night the vent was open about an hour before bedtime and then closed in the morning, which was quite toasty as I remember. Since this bedroom was upstairs and out of sight, I painted it lavender and wrote my friend's name creatively on the wall!
Joyce, I'll sign up for potato salad, string beans and a dessert for the 11th. The reason my last blog was so late is because I went to sleep at 9:00 on the sofa, Rick watched TV till 1:00 and when I got in bed four hours later (at 1:00), I was wide awake, so I blogged.
