Spoke to Joyce today and wanted to share this info with all (as I understood it). Ed is in UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill; room 4712, telephone # 919-966-1841. Since he still has barium in his system, they kept him to try to help him get rid of it - I don't know exactly how. After that, the doctors want to do a cat scan and what Joyce called a flex - a light where they can look and see how extensive the problem is. All this is to help the doctor decide what plan of action to order. At this point, his preferred treatment is 4-8 weeks of radiation, then surgery. But until they know what they're dealing with, they really don't know what they'll recommend. Joyce hopes he won't be in the hospital but a couple of days. I'm sure when they get home, Joyce will fill us all in on the blog!
