As I drove back home to Sanford last night, I couldn't help but think about all the wonderful things our family has done for us over the last week. You all deserve a big thank you for being there when we needed you. Bertha and Margaret were especially good to us in every way imaginable from hemming pants to cleaning toilets to sharing memories. The music at the service was perfect thanks to Ben's generous sharing of his musical talent. Grandaddy was there to share his quick wit for a laugh even when he had to stay up way past his bedtime. Hannah and Christie came early to help with arrangements including printing photos for the collage. Chris helped in a way he's not aware by handing me a little package of tissue before the service. That tissue kept Ridge and Savannah occupied for part of the funeral. (Thanks to someone who cleaned it up!) Ricky picked up socks for Ridge to wear to the funeral and (for the rest of our time in RR which we needed). Everyone helped care for our kids when our attention could not be on them. I'm sure there are others who went out of their way to help, and I'm sorry to not mention everyone!
We appreciate all of you that came to celebrate Dad's life and mourn his passing. It felt wonderful to have all of your support, and I know Dad would have been happy to see how much you cared.

Cathy, I know that I probably speak for all when I say that we wanted to help in any way that we could. When people that we love are hurting, you want to lift the burden just a little. You mention that your Dad would have been happy to see how much we cared. Sometimes, we don't stop and think about how much we care for each member of our family until they're not with us. It makes me realize that I want to not take for granted that people will not always be here for us to love. I know that I still miss Gloria and think of her often. Know that I love each of you reading this.
That is what FAMILY is!
