Feelings on:
Elections - Just VOTE your conscious, and hope that we can all live with the results!
No Child Left Behind -"The overall purpose of the law is to ensure that each child in America is able to meet the high learning standards of the state where he or she lives. The specific goals of the law, as spelled out in the Federal Register issued on March 6, 2002, are:All students will reach high standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading and mathematics by 2013-2014. By 2013-2014, all students will be proficient in reading by the end of the third grade. All limited English proficient students will become proficient in English. By 2005-2006, all students will be taught by highly qualified teachers. All students will be educated in learning environments that are safe, drug free and conducive to learning. All students will graduate from high school."
Probably what Howie is speaking of is the problem of "time" to implement and money for funding. Such as: Annual testing of all students against state standards in reading and mathematics in grades 3-8 and in science at three times in a student?s school career (including once in high school).
Memories of childhood past times: I, like Margaret, don't remember reading unless I had to for school. Don't remember any teachers who encouraged reading for enjoyment "way back then". Most of my memories are outside memories, like climbing trees with my afterschool snack - which included a jar of water and a mayonnaise sandwich, playing in the back of Dad's old blue pickup with Bobby and Ronnie Byrum which was our "club house", and walking back of the field exploring. I guess I just tried to stay outside so I wouldn't have to do any work inside, or was it "out of sight-out of mind"? Don't remember Mom folding any clothes anywhere - seems like they just stayed in the clothes basket or on the line.
Congratulations Howie! I'm proud of you! And that crack about feeling sorry for the students of the 50 year old women - well, we have the maturity, and some of us still have the enthusiasm to be good teachers! (energy-well, I'm not sure about)
Test on www.theadvocates.org: Test showed that I'm a Conservative.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Christmas, just looked at the calendar and I'll be decorating in just 4 weeks - EEEEK! Bertha
